Didn't know this strip mall used to have an Atlanta Bread Company, but they didn't last very long in the Midwest.

If this departure of stores was years in the making (as it appears to have been), then it very well could have been an issue of the property manager pressuring its own tenants or refusing to renew the leases in many instances. LA Fitness has proven a stalwart among health club chains, at least in the Midwest. At any rate, it doesn't appear that Pointe Plaza is in any danger of dying, despite the fact it falls in the Detroit city limits. Outside of the Renaissance Center and some trendy areas downtown, it probably claims some of the highest per square foot leasing spaces in the entire city.AmericanDirthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04600555386886915000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9158467536239735339.post-3385308535589096942013-09-18T04:54:38.621-08:002013-09-18T04:54:38.621-08:00I currently live across the street from the B&...I currently live across the street from the B&N, in Grosse Pointe Farms. I've watched the Moross facing businesses leave one-by-one. When Dress Barn moved into the former Atlanta Bread Company location, I started to assume that the property owners were strategically clearing the wing.

Just this week, barricades have gone up to block anyone from entering the parking lot. A little searching on Google brought me to your site, but also this http://constructiondatacompany.com/cdcnews-hot-projects-for-the-week-of-august-12-16-2013/
It appears that rumors are true and an LA Fitness is to be constructed in the vacant wing.Johnhttp://runrunjohnny.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9158467536239735339.post-64667879488807169092013-08-27T20:08:09.746-08:002013-08-27T20:08:09.746-08:00Thanks for your observations, Ben. You're right about Alter Road, which is particularly sad because the housing on the Detroit side (the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood) is still very high quality. Another really extreme comparison is Kercheval Street, which intersects Alter Road. On the Detroit side, it's burned out buildings and vacant lots, and on the Grosse Pointe Park side, it's a picture perfect main street with specialty shops.AmericanDirthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04600555386886915000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9158467536239735339.post-15005227168827514312013-08-27T16:11:32.555-08:002013-08-27T16:11:32.555-08:00My Grandparents live in Grosse Pointe Farms so I t...My Grandparents live in Grosse Pointe Farms so I though I could let you know a little bit more about this area. The area if Detroit near St. John is not bad, actually East English Village, the neighborhood of Detroit, is not that bad at all. If you want to see a really shocking comparison see Altar Rd. One side is GP one Detroit. In fact the City of Grosse Pointe had blocked 8-10 streets that lead from Detroit into Grosse Pointe creating a virtual Berlin Wall. Some residents have even continued their privacy fences across where the road used to be shutting of access. Ben B.noreply@blogger.com
